Job DescriptionSummary:The Director of Social Media will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Digital Strategy & Technology / Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The person in this role will oversee and develop MomsRising's social media strategy and its implementation, consistent with overall communications strategies, organizational priorities, and topline goals as described in the annual Key Results areas. In addition, the Director of Social Media will work in partnership with the SVP/CTO to ensure digital strategies are aligned across social media, web content, and the MomsRising blog, as well as collaborate with the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) on narrative shifting and national culture change, and may supervise staff and contractors that work on projects across communications platforms.The Director of Social Media has deep experience in political spaces and/or issue-based advocacy organizations, values and effectively navigates coalition work and partnership within and outside the organization, and possesses an intimate understanding of how the public, activists, and our target audiences of policy makers, grassroots, and elected officials interact with channels and technology. This position is pivotal in determining how MomsRising disseminates the powerful work being done across campaign areas, mobilizing followers to action, increasing the reach and the scale of our digital footprint while growing engagement, and building the overall power of our movement spaces. About the MomsRising Organizations:MomsRising Together is a 501(c)(4) virtual organization with staff working around the country. MomsRising Education Fund, is its affiliated 501(c)(3) public charity. Our core team of paid staff and volunteers work collaboratively to develop our strategies and campaigns. As virtual organizations, we use conference calls, IM, and email extensively to communicate, to create, and to care for each other. Our team enjoys a results-oriented work environment where the challenges and joys of balancing work, family, and personal time are understood.Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the SVP/CTO to develop policies, procedures, and practices that encourage best practices and maximize the effectiveness of organizational digital strategy, with a focus on social media, for both pre-planned campaign work and rapid response, in support of MomsRising's topline goals.
  • Collaborates with the SVP/CTO and CSO to establish a guiding vision for social media and web content at MomsRising, updated annually, informed by feedback from issue-area campaigns and approved by the management team.
  • Leads the social media team, supervising staff, and contractor(s) focused on the strategic production, packaging, and scheduling of high-quality content that helps to win campaigns, raise funds, and grow the movement.
  • Provides strategic direction and measurable benchmarks for the organization and integrates social media best practices into the production and packaging of campaigns, supporting both national campaign work, the state moms force work, and MamásConPoder, our Spanish-speaking community.
  • Actively participates in and/or directs team members to participate in key coalitions working to advance MomsRising policy positions, and manages MomsRising's coalition work in social spaces as assigned.
  • In cooperation with the SVP/CTO, develops and maintains service-level agreements with campaign teams that have an assigned digital strategist, outlining roles, responsibilities, and expectations for strategic support.
  • Consults with the fundraising team to ensure that when social media deliverables are added to our grant proposals, they are packaged to be strategic, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound, inclusive and equitable.
  • In partnership with the SVP/CTO, develops and implements strategies for member growth and fundraising on the website, blog, and social spaces.
  • Stays attuned to best practices and emerging tactics and platforms within social media where MomsRising can best expand reach, engage new and existing audiences, and move followers to action.
  • Strategically and efficiently develops and deepens relationships with digital influencers in multiple spaces, including mom and progressive spaces, including IG influencers, bloggers and tweeters with high-level of engagement. Qualifications:
    • Broad understanding of and enthusiasm for social media platforms and strategies and the ability to stay connected with best practices in each space as platforms change over time and new platforms emerge.
    • Deep experience and understanding of legislative, policy, corporate, and narrative shifting campaigns, coalition and movement building, political strategy, and organizing and/or advocacy work, ideally within an organization that operates both online and on-the-ground.
    • Experience lifting up real world voices to help leverage political and narrative change.
    • Experience working with a national organization that also has distinct state or local social media needs and an understanding of how geographic and national strategies can be pursued in tandem.
    • Experience working with large coalitions that are pursuing common goals.
    • Experience managing a team of digital professionals.
    • Experience providing support and intellectual know-how, to non-digital savvy campaign staff, with the ability to translate their activities/ideas to digital content in line with the organizations policies.
    • Experience working with diverse teams and partners, especially working with BIPOC and LGBTQIA organizations and activists. Preferred Qualifications (Not required):
      • Fluency in Spanish
      • Experience working remotelyWorking conditions:This is a virtual job with no physical office or office space stipend. Incumbent will work in their own home and communicate with coworkers through technology. Hours are flexible with some evening and weekend hours required. Physical requirements:Must be able to work at a desk for blocks of time. Must be able to communicate verbally. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to move objects/operate keyboards, reach with hands and arms, speak and hear. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Compensation and benefits:This is a full-time, exempt position, with a salary of $91,000 to $115,000 commensurate with experience. MomsRising Together and MomsRising Education Fund provide a robust benefits package including eligibility for paid family and medical leave, medical/dental/vision coverage, generous PTO and sick time, and a Simple IRA retirement plan with an employer contribution.
