#LI-JM8Primary ResponsibilitiesHDR is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to be a part of the Hydropower practice group and will focus on mechanical systems related to hydropower dams, flood protection, powerhouse and mechanical equipment, and gates.In this role we'll count on you to:

  • Serve as lead mechanical engineer on mid- to large size projects
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
  • Present complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Prepare plan sheet, detail drawings, specifications, and construction cost estimate development for construction projects
  • Author technical reports / technical memorandums
  • Coordinate cross discipline (e.g. with electrical and structural) on a multidisciplinary project team
  • Mechanical field inspection and troubleshooting
  • Participate in development of technical proposals.
  • Provide estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
  • Conduct construction submittal reviews (e.g., shop drawings)
  • Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives including schedule and budget
  • Work independently on projects as discipline lead
  • Conduct independent quality review of technical work products developed by others. Serve as discipline engineer-of-record.
  • Mentor and guide mid- to junior-staff
  • Give direction to clerical and technical personnel as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed Qualifications Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Professional Engineering license
    • 10 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering design.
    • Experience in working on dams, hydropower stations, pump storage facilities, etc.
    • Experience with hydropower equipment
    • Experience with 3D modeling software (AutoCAD Inventor preferred)
    • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
    • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a mustPreferred Qualifications
      • Previous employment experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm, construction contractor, utility, or similar industry employers for mechanical design projects.
      • Ability to meet qualifications to work on Federal projects
      • Ability and willingness to travel (limited)
