System One is seeking a highly motivated I&C Design Engineer
for a yearlong remote contract position. In this role, you will
support Sodium Fast Reactor technologies, taking ownership of the
instrument and control system design, prototype development and
testing, plant-level system integration, and commissioning. You
will interface with a diverse team of scientists and engineers both
internally and externally to our client. You will also be
responsible for identifying, specifying, and integrating custom
instrumentation with advanced control systems for Generation IV
nuclear reactor technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Interface and collaborate with geographically diverse,
international design team members to develop supporting design
documentation. This includes both in-house and subcontracted
resources and may involve partner/customer resources.
Lead the design of I&C and supporting electrical systems from
functional requirements to final design.
Develop and review system- and component-level specifications and
scopes of work.
Perform engineering evaluations in accordance with nuclear codes,
standards, licensing requirements, and NRC regulations.
Provide technical direction and guidance on applicable nuclear and
non-nuclear design standards.
Specify and assess instrumentation measurement techniques for use
in sodium fast reactors and integrated energy storage technologies,
including evaluating measurement range, response time, and
accuracy.
Analyze and apply regulatory criteria and standards to complex
Instrumentation and Control system design.
Develop and review technical design documents, such as System
Requirements Documents, System Design Descriptions, Interface
Control Documents, and Engineering Design Specifications.
Create and manage drawing packages for system and sub-system
designs, including P&IDs, control system architecture diagrams,
control logic and loop diagrams, and instrument installation
drawings.
Generate integrated design packages for key systems and
sub-systems.
Oversee supplier projects, ensuring deliverables meet our client's
requirements, and coordinate technical reviews of deliverables.
Support continuous learning and apply nuclear industry best
practices to maintain high-quality engineering design, proactively
identifying opportunities for process improvements.
Integrate I&C with work from other engineering disciplines,
scientists, and subject matter experts.
Interface with and support licensing activities, including
contributing to Safety Analysis Reports.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
B.S. or higher in Controls, Electrical, or a related discipline
from an accredited university, with 6+ years of direct experience
in instrumentation and control systems. Higher education may
contribute to years of experience.
Proven experience in the development, diagnostics, and delivery of
industrial I&C platforms, including reporting data
accordingly.
Previous experience with nuclear reactor safety systems or nuclear
instrumentation systems is desired but not required.
Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards is a plus.
Experience with nuclear power plant quality assurance (e.g., 10 CFR
50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1) is a plus.
Experience designing and operating high-temperature processes (400
-C and higher) is desired but not required.
Ability to manage projects with multiple competing objectives and
resolve conflicts between design constraints.
Experience with industrial process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping &
instrument diagrams (P&ID) is desirable.
Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Standard, AutoCAD
Electrical, SolidWorks) is a plus.
Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation
skills.
High attention to detail with a commitment to technical
excellence.
Ability to be a self-starter, capable of leading a design team with
minimal direction.
Ability to work on multiple tasks that require a multi-disciplinary
approach.
Experience with formal I&C system startup testing procedures is
a plus.
