The Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) is a self-sustaining initiative of the University of Washington, founded in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation and Tsinghua University, to develop responsible leaders in innovation and technology. In collaboration with corporate, government and non-profit organizations, GIX delivers transformational learning experiences through graduate education, professional development, and an engaged community of partners, sponsors and members. GIX is headquartered in a 68,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Bellevue's Spring District, a growing center of business, retail and residential activity located eight miles from the UW campus.

We have an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Career Services & Industry Engagement who will be responsible for managing the career development program and academic-industry relationships for the MS in Technology Innovation (MSTI) program, GIX's flagship graduate-degree program offering.

We are seeking an experienced professional with a high degree of personal initiative who is adept at working in a dynamic and collaborative work environment. The individual in this position must develop a deep understanding of the program and communicate effectively with students, industry professionals and colleagues of widely varying academic backgrounds, work experiences, and nationalities.

The Assistant Director will oversee/participate in MSTI program activities and events that engage industry professionals and must be available for occasional evenings and weekends, as needed. Occasional international travel and local commutes between the UW campus in Seattle and the Steve Ballmer Building in Bellevue are expected.

This position supports the success of the academic program by building fruitful relationships with mentors, potential employers, and industry partners and ensuring successful career outcomes and continued engagement with program alumni for the MSTI (connected devices and robotics tracks), as well as the GIX Dual Degree Program (MSTI + MSEDSIT at Tsinghua University in Beijing). Under direction of the Director of Academic Programs, the Assistant Director will have the following responsibilities:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Industry Engagement

In collaboration with GIX's Director of Partnerships and Engagement Programs, ensure that industry (i.e., corporate, nonprofit, and government) relationships support MSTI program needs. Serve as the primary point of contact for industry, nonprofit and government partners to ensure a successful experience engaging with the MSTI programs. Ensure successful launch project experience for partner organizations and mentors:

--- Work closely with MSTI faculty to foster a sustainable, collaborative and outcome-oriented working relationships between student project teams and sponsors.
--- Establish clear timelines with milestones, and ensure timely completion, communication, and execution of processes and tasks related to launch projects that involve industry engagement.
--- In coordination with the Director of Academic Programs and Director of Partnership and Engagement Programs, implement and coordinate student, faculty, and sponsor participation in events and meetings including design-thinking workshops, project definition meetings, student and consortium member engagement, mentor participation, and final project presentations.
--- Provide regular updates to faculty and leadership regarding project status, sponsors, and mentor engagement.
--- Ensure regular meetings and communications with project mentors and sponsors.
--- Anticipate and troubleshoot project issues.
--- Evaluate experience and suggest improvements.
--- Collaborate with marketing team to generate collateral used for industry partner recruitment.

Manage industry engagement efforts related to the MSTI academic program

--- Work with Director of Academic Programs to develop and manage an MSTI program industry advisory group to ensure industry relevance of specific aspects of curriculum and learning objectives. Coordinate with Director of Partnerships & Engagement Programs to ensure program industry advisory board is complementary to GIX's industry engagement efforts and strategies.
--- Engage and steward industry members in our networks who may engage with the MSTI as guest lecturers, mentors, subject matter experts, and advisory group members.
--- Work with Director of Partnerships & Engagement to coordinate speakers in GIX speaker series and other GIX programs that integrate with MSTI courses and activities.
--- Be prepared to represent industry engagement opportunities for GIX and make appropriate GIX staff and faculty introductions.
--- Coordinate student engagement in the GIX mentor program; correspond with mentors, facilitate pairing of students and mentors, and support program events. Respond to student inquiries about the mentoring process.
--- Coordinate with Director of Partnerships & Engagement Programs on engagement with mentors and alumni programs and activities, to ensure they maintain active meaningful engagement with MSTI students after graduation.
--- Contribute to maintenance of CRM system and tracking of information related to pipeline of potential partners, Consortium members, and other relevant contacts.

Career Development Services

Develop and implement programs, activities, counseling, and advising focused on student career development.

--- Develop relationships with hiring managers, connect with recruiters, and host hiring and professional development and workshops
--- Counsel students and alumni on career options and opportunities, including customized services for specific populations. Search and promote new job opportunities and employers.
--- Help students and alumni identify their interests, values, skills, and personalities, and understand how these factors relate to academic/career satisfaction and choices. Use standard quantitative and qualitative assessments to help them assess career goals.
--- Meet with students for individual and small group advising to discuss and coach them on their resumes, cover letters, applications and/or interviews.
--- Research, evaluate, and update written and electronic career and educational resources.
--- Research and organize economic and employment trend data, and design materials for presentation to students and campus professionals.
--- Develop, conduct, and/or arrange workshops to cultivate and improve students' skills.
--- Track and document qualitative and quantitative data regarding student and alumni career outcomes. Work with marketing and recruiting team to promote the student and alumni career placement and accomplishments.
--- Develop and maintain excellent professional relations with the recruiters and hiring managers in relevant industries. Create, maintain and enhance relationships with corporations and other organizations to develop and modify existing and potential employer resources, and promote GIX programs.

Degree Program Services

Participate in and contribute to development of MSTI program activities, represent the MSTI, and supervise staff hired to support externally facility activities and programs.

--- Attend and participate in, and/or support recurring annual MSTI program events (e.g., orientation, visit day, graduation).
--- Attend and participate in, and/or support MSTI student recruiting efforts as needed.
--- Advise on MSTI marketing and communications efforts with industry and academic programs lens.
--- Collect, manage, and present programmatic data to show trends, evaluate program performance and show programmatic progress toward OKRs and goals
--- Hire and manage Program Coordinator to provide administrative support for the program and externally facing activities.
--- Participate in networking and professional community of practice opportunities that contribute to increasing program visibility, partner recruitment and career development opportunities.
--- Other duties as assigned


Requirements include:

--- Minimum of four years of experience in academic career services, corporate recruitment or corporate training.
--- Proven administrative, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
--- Flexibility and ability to prioritize concurrent projects under pressure of deadlines with consistent accuracy and attention to detail.
--- Basic computer knowledge and proficiency with MS Office, electronic calendaring systems.
--- Excellent oral and written communication skills, used in situations requiring conflict management and an awareness of cultural differences; demonstrated experience and ability to communicate effectively, including empathetic listening, presentations and public speaking.
--- Commitment to diversity and experience working with individuals from different cultural, ethnic, geographic, and experiential backgrounds.
--- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

--- Master's degree in education, business, social sciences or related field.
--- Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
--- Knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice, workshop and program design.
--- Knowledge of UW programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
--- Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and ability to learn new software tools and interest in learning.

NOTE: This position may require off-site travel, including overnight and out-of-state travel, to recruitment events. This position must be able to work flexible hours as necessary due to work demands.
