Credit Review Director Opportunity Overview
Oversee the administration of a comprehensive credit review function including periodic, process, and desk reviews. Provide the Board of Directors and Executive Management with an objective and independent assessment of asset quality, appropriateness of credit approval and portfolio management processes, and compliance with lending policy. Additionally, evaluate on an ongoing basis the adequacy of credit policies, the design and efficacy of the credit risk rating system, and portfolio analytics. Stay informed of ongoing regulatory requirements/guidance and work with Executive Management to ensure compliance. Manage a team of senior level credit professionals focused on activities supporting the credit review function.
As a Credit Review Director with Banner Bank you will have the opportunity to:

  • Oversee the Credit Review department and provide an independent assessment of credit risk, adequacy of credit policies, the design and efficacy of the credit risk rating system, and portfolio analytics. Provide quarterly reports with direct presentation to Executive Management and the Credit Risk Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee a comprehensive portfolio review process using statistical and judgmental sampling methods. Review focused on credit quality, sufficiency of credit and collateral support, proper lien perfection, proper credit approval and boarding, adherence to credit covenants, and timeliness of risk ratings, as appropriate. Additionally, oversee a formalized desk review function that samples new and renewed credits.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with a risk-based and Board-approved review schedule. This includes periodic updates to the Board of Directors.
  • Provide effective challenge and input to the Chief Credit Officer and Credit Policy Committee regarding credit initiatives, changes in policy, and risk rating changes.
  • Maintain independence by ensuring that significant credits, or credit risk exposures, are reviewed by individuals that are not part of or influenced by the lending or credit approval process.
  • Keep abreast of credit review best practices at both peer banks and regulatory agencies. Maintain subject matter expert knowledge of federal and state banking regulations including technical aspects related to problem loan resolution, workouts, impairment, troubled debt restructuring, and accrual status determinations.
  • Maintain and review policies and procedures and provide necessary updates for the Credit Review function specifying retention of qualified and independent personnel, risk-based reviews, minimum portfolio coverage ratios, use of both statistical and judgmental sampling methods, review of findings with management and follow-up, fair and timely opportunity for management responses, work paper maintenance and report distribution, and reporting to appropriate management and Board committees.
  • Responsible for complying with, and ensuring staff follows, policies, procedures, security requirements, and government regulations.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Education & Certifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or other related field requiredExperience
      • More than 8 years in (minimum of 15 years) of credit experience in the area of Credit Administration, Credit (Loan) Review, or Regulatory. Experience with problem portfolios, large and complex credits, and impaired/TDR loans preferred. required
      • 5 - 8 years in of managerial experience in at least one of the areas described above.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        • Possess a thorough understanding of Commercial lending (C&I, CRE, Small Business, etc.), consumer lending, problem loan management and workouts, risk rating methodologies, and accounting related to nonaccrual, impairment, charge-offs, and other real estate owned.
        • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to consumer, commercial, and real estate lending.
        • Possess excellent critical thinking, strategic leadership, written and verbal communication, financial analysis, and negotiation skills.
        • Possess a strong knowledge of loan documentation and collateral perfection.
        • Ability to work independently, prioritize workflows, and manage the Credit Review team.
