Director of Business Development
Merriman is searching for an exceptional person to join our team as Director of Business Development. We are looking for someone who can provide strategic leadership for our advisory team business development efforts. The person who fills the position will be asked to guide our advisors in advancing client relationships, oversee our custodian referral platform efforts, and collaborate with the leadership team to execute our growth strategy. They will play an active role in coaching advisors and attracting talent to help us scale and grow our business.

The Job
As the Director of Business Development, you will have responsibility for:

  • Advisor coaching and development

    • Running internal sales coaching program for all levels of the advisory team from associates to partners focused on advancing relationships
    • Identifying, evaluating, and overseeing external coaching resources
    • Working closely with wealth advisors and their managers on their individual business development plans including personal branding
    • Teaching and promoting our value proposition and target client personas

    • Growth Committee participation

      • Collaborating with Leadership Team and Director of Marketing to develop strategies and priorities to achieve growth targets

      • Business development channels

        • Client referrals
        • Establishing strategies for increasing ease of client introductions to friends and family
        • Custodial referral platform

          • Developing and maintaining relationships with key branch managers and custodian executives
          • Overseeing advisors participating on the platform including branch assignments, coaching, and creating content that can be shared
          • Defining and communicating Merriman's differentiators on the platform

          • Pipeline management

            • Working with Operations to evaluate and track lead metrics
            • Reporting on and evaluate effectiveness of business development channels
            • Owning the flow and experience of leads through the pipeline from initial contact to contract signing
            • Directing individuals responsible for incoming lead screening

            • Managing a small team of senior wealth advisors

              Candidate Qualifications
              First and foremost, we are seeking a candidate who has demonstrated leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and is a great team player.
              Candidates applying should have demonstrated the following attributes:

              • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience including sales, business development or marketing
              • Knowledge of the financial services industry is a plus
              • Experience managing and developing people
              • Well-developed communication skills
              • Self-starter with the ability to meet or exceed deadlines, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility
              • Capability to build strong, collaborative relationships across an organization and with prospects and referral sources
              • Strong organizational skills including defining outcomes, mapping a path forward, assigning accountability, tracking multiple priorities, and making decisions with incomplete information
              • Self-motivation, creativity, and a willingness to take risks and chart new paths

                Work Environment:
                Merriman has offices in Seattle, Bellevue, and Spokane, Washington and Eugene, Oregon. We strongly prefer that the person filling this position be willing to work in our Bellevue office. Normal hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. We typically expect newly hired employees to work in the office for the first 3- to 6-months of employment. After that, we allow employees in good standing to work remotely up to 3 days per week. You may be asked to occasionally attend a client event outside of normal business hours.
                This position works in a high-rise office environment. - The position requires sitting, standing and mobility throughout the office. - Ability to use common office products (phone, fax, PC and related software) is necessary to perform this job. - -The ability to communicate clearly and professionally is vital.The Rewards
