Job Description:

Smartsheet is looking for an accomplished attorney to join its collaborative legal team as Corporate Counsel. We are looking for someone with a willingness to dive into exciting work. The Corporate Counsel will help address legal issues across a broad spectrum of subject matter, including commercial contracting, employment and human resources matters, intellectual property, marketing, and corporate matters. You will help develop and maintain processes to continue building team and company efficiencies. This opportunity requires general legal practitioner skills, including research, drafting, negotiation, and counseling, practiced in a corporate setting where developing rapport with fellow employees is essential. You will report to our Senior Corporate Counsel located in our Bellevue, WA office.-- You Will:

  • Field and respond to inquiries from a variety of our teams regarding legal processes.
  • Research and present results to the legal team and leadership on subject matter relevant to different legal issues, including those related to commercial, employment, corporate, and intellectual property practice areas.--
  • Work with our teams to negotiate and draft commercial engagement agreements, including for transactions with customers, vendors, and partners.
  • Help support the marketing and people and culture teams by serving as a primary contact for their legal requests.
  • Help develop department resources, including through organizing and filing department-specific requests.
  • Provide practical business counsel and legal advice to internal department leaders, and participate in direct communications with external parties.
  • Partner with company stakeholders to gather information and approvals necessary for legal matters.
  • Work with all members of the legal team across global office locations, including attorney and non-attorney personnel.
  • Provide thought and analysis on internal team projects, including in the course of improving workflows for intake and approval of department specific request types.
  • Support general business operations and complete special projects as requested. You Have:
    • 2+ years of relevant legal experience as a practicing attorney (prior in-house experience preferred).
    • Willingness to learn and develop expertise in multiple legal practice areas.
    • Experience recommending practical solutions that balance legal and business risks.
    • Disposition to uphold our business standards and risk tolerance and recommend practical solutions respecting such standards and tolerance.
    • Experience developing partnerships with other members of the legal team and members of other teams.
    • Juris Doctor from accredited law school and an active member of the Washington State bar.
