You will be responsible for leadingmechanicaltest programsand developing material performance modelsto supportdesign andlicensing efforts fortheourreactordesigns. Your role will also include materials selection forreactordesignsas well as R of advanced materials and fabrication technologies.ResponsibilitiesInterface with variousprojectteams to ensure materials developmentand testingefforts meet programmatic objectivesPlan, execute, and overseetest programs designed to develop an understanding of complex mechanical phenomena (e.g.creep, fatigue, creep fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture)in sodium cooled fast reactor core materialsWork closely with vendors and quality assurance to ensure the necessary test data are obtained for qualification and licensing of nuclear reactor core materials.Perform scientific analysis on test data andgenerate technical reports to document new knowledge related to reactor design and qualificationDevelopmaterial propertycorrelationsand advancedmaterialperformance models as input forreactor designand licensingSupport mechanical testing of neutron irradiated materials at US national laboratoriesDevelop strategy for qualification nuclear materials data and dedication of material testing services for licensing sodium fast reactors.Providematerialsengineeringsupportfor the procurementof engineeredcomponents and systems.Offermaterial selection guidance forTerraPower'sreactor development programsKeyQualificationsand SkillsB.S.inMaterials Science/Engineering or MechanicalEngineering with a focus on mechanical performance of materials orequivalent.Minimum of8+years of relevant materials and chemistryexperienceDemonstrated experiencein fracture mechanics, fatigue and damage toleranceinmetallicmaterialsExperiencedevelopingand applyingmaterial performance models, particularly forfatigue, fracture mechanics, and solid mechanicsis desiredExperience qualifying materials for service in high-performance and/or highly regulated applications is highly desirableA thorough understanding of metallurgyincludingfabrication and thermomechanical processing of ferrous(e.g., ferritic-martensitic steels)alloysispreferredPrior experience in materials development, testing, and characterization for a nuclear reactor environment is desired but not requiredWorking knowledge of ASME Section III, Div. 5 is a plusAbility to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problemsThe successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamworkActual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.Job FunctionsJob Functions are physical actions and/or working conditions associated with the position.
