Job Description

 

Under the general supervision of the Associate Executive Director of Nursing (AED) / Director of Nursing (DON), the Assistant Director of Nursing directs the overall planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all professional, ancillary, and agency staffing plans throughout all Nursing Departments; managing non-employee/agency coordination with Central Office. Directly reports to AED/DON with operational oversight by Central Office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Determines and oversees staffing plans/models and procedures to ensure safe staffing, appropriate utilization of resources, and coordination of professional and ancillary staff 
  • Ensures that personnel activities are entered into Clairvia (employee sick calls, lateness, leaves of absence, etc.)
  • Ensures that time schedules are prepared in accordance with approved staffing methodologies and facilitates the appropriate allocation of staff in the designated regions
  • Directs, oversees, and evaluates performance of Nursing Staffing Office personnel
  • Assures that agency staff remain in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Ensures that there are sufficient agency staff to fill gaps in staffing across all Nursing departments
  • Oversees all agency staff recruitment, onboarding, timekeeping and ensures that agency personnel files are maintained accordingly
  • Oversees absence management for all Nursing staff and monitors leaves of absences 
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply acceptable leadership skills in setting priorities, delegating appropriately, managing time, resolving issues, and deficiencies as needed 
  • Sets objectives and long-term goals for the Nursing Staffing Office
  • Develops and enforces policies, aiming for legal compliance and high-quality standards
  • Controls budgets and monitors expenditures
  • Manages record-keeping procedures and reports
  • Collaborates with other departments leadership to streamline operations
  • Demonstrates skills in the area of staff engagement and change management

Minimum Qualifications

 
  1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
  2. Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
  3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
